It is available via the regular download on aescripts.

I checked the website on different machines and some still say version 3.01 but the download is definitely 3.02. Might be some cache problems.

Hi, great script and great tutorials!

I just installed MochaImport v3.03 (according to instruction video) and, when I try to import tracking data (for stabilization), I get the following error message: "The data in your file seems to be no valid tracking data"...

I exported the data from the "Stabilize" tab in Mocha Pro v2.5.2 build 3520

When I look at the file, here is what I see:

Adobe After Effects 6.0 Keyframe Data

Units Per Second 29.97
Source Width 1920
Source Height 1080
Source Pixel Aspect Ratio 1
Comp Pixel Aspect Ratio 1

Position
Frame X pixels Y pixels Z pixels
0 960 540 0
1 954.655 549.776 0
2 948.182 560.862 0
...

Followed by Scale, then by Rotation (all the 614 frames are there for each) and then "End of Keyframe Data".

Any idea what is wrong?

Thanks in advance,

Marc

Hi Marc,

in Mocha you have to export the usual Transform data if you want to stabilize using MochaImport. The data from the Stabilize tab is only useful, if you want to use it via cut and paste and not with MochaImport.
See this tutorial for details: www.mamoworld.com/.../

Duh! And the worst part is that I actually viewed the tutorial before attempting to stabilize my shot... Pathetic or lost cause! :-)

Of course, now that I look at it again, I see my error...

Thank you very much for great tutorials, tools and support!

Hi Ali,
you must copy the script to the subfolder "Script UI Panels".
After that you need to restart After Effects.

See here: vimeo.com/15978374

Hi Mathias. I have CS3 also, and the script DOES NOT show up in the Window Menu. To get to you it you DO have to go to the FILE menu -> Scripts -> MochaImport.jsx . You cannot dock the window in AE either in CS3, it will remain an independent window. Hope this helps Ali.

Hi Mathias, great work on scripts. When I use ver 3.03 and I use the (TF) create stabilized precomp for selected layer, it doesn't create a precomp for me to manipulate. It just adds the stabilized data to my original video in my original comp. I am using AE CS3. What am I doing wrong? Thanks.

using mocha CS5 - exported shape data, and tried to import shape data into AE CS4 - get an error of: "Invalid corner pin or transform data in line 9: Effects mocha shape #1 Shape data". I was hoping this script solved using CS5 data in CS4 (one of my friends recommended it). Please let me know if this is possible. Thanks.

0 # Mathias Möhl 2011-08-25 00:38
To use shape data in CS4, you need the Mocha Shape for After Effects plugin from Imagineer Systems. MochaImport can only use transform data and corner pin data. For those it really does not care about the version - you can, for example, use CS5 corner pin data in CS3 with MochaImport. But for shapes there is no way without the shape plugin.

Reply | Reply with quote | Quote

0 # Mathias Möhl 2011-08-25 16:59
No, you didn't miss something. To use it in CS4, you would need to purchase an upgrade to Mocha AE v2.6 which ships for $149. Note that this also contains plugins for FCP, Motion & Boris FX, but unfortunately there is no cheaper solution if you need it only for AE CS4

Hi, I just discovered your scripts and tutorials. I have been teaching myself AE for fun and doing some VFX in home made movies etc.. Your scripts seem to be very handy and I wanted to thank you and I hope you make more.

Can you add a feature to MochaImport to insert the tracking data at the current timeline position?

Thanks.

0 # Mathias Möhl 2011-09-29 17:38
Hi Paladin,
thank you for your feedback! When you load the tracking data in MochaImport, you can specify the frame where the tracking data starts. Hence, just specify the current frame there to insert the data at this point.

Best
Mathias

No problem, I was just thinking if it was easy to add a button to the selection it would be much easier to have it insert right at the current time location without having to type in the frame info etc... I am lazy! ;)

BTW is the stabilized pre compose effect the same as the videocopilot's demon warp tutorial you mentioned before? He does a trick where he double tracks and alters the expression in between to do basically the same thing. If this has the same effect your way is MUCH easier to work with, thanks!

0 # Mathias Möhl 2011-09-30 07:13
Good point, I will consider to add such a feature in the next update.

The technique is similar to the Video Copilot technique, but goes beyond it as it works with Mocha and even with corner pin data. Whenever you can use the technique from the deamon face warp, you can also use this one here.

Thanks Mathias! I am still new to all of this but the more I use Mocha the more I keep thinking why bother with normal tracking. ;) Well there are times when a simple track will do it seems but mocha really does seem to track so much better and easier. I love it! I do not understand why they made the interface so ugly though. ;) They also need to make the keys the same as AE to hold, zoom, move forward and back etc...

My biggest grip with mocha is it does not support many formats. I am still trying to figure out the best way to export my HD footage (1440X1080i) so I can use it in Mocha. Mocha ships with AE but it cannot import the m2t format that onLocation uses. That makes no sense to me. I exported my selection from premiere to tiffs and it seemed fine in mocha but when I then imported them into AE it looked out of proportion even with the correction button on. I triple checked that the format and fps were matched etc... I have much to learn.

If anyone figures out a script or way to select a section from AE and have that get automatically imported into mocha to track that would be GREAT!

Andrew I hope you were joking. I am only an AE newb and will only use it here and there for now but I tell you what, it already has saved my butt.

I used it to track some teeth that I then added animated vampire teeth for a home made movie my friends are doing. It came out perfect! They animate down etc.. looks great! Looks very real if I do say so myself.

All thanks to this! This is truly a MUST have script and should be built right in, like mocha should.

It would have been MUCH harder if it were not for this so no, Mathias is a COOL dude for giving it to us. Thanks again Mathias and thanks for all your other tutorials etc....

I could only pay a little for it at the time (I just wanted to test it out a bit first) but intend to buy it again when I start using it more. ;)

Omid, did you even read anything at the top of the screen? There is a link that says "installation video: Installation in 2 minutes", click on it! ;)

every time i launch track in moche, it open mocha and mocha say "relink clip, media unavaible" and i have to check on my disk where th origianl file is.

is it normale ?

Thanks

Hi Mat,

no this is not normal. Please ensure that you have installed the most current version of MochaImport+ (4.13).

If it still does not work, please send me the following infos to
a) the mocha project file generated by MochaImport+ before you saved it in mocha
b) the mocha project file after you relinked the clip
c) your footage file (in case it is very big, a few seconds of it are enough as long as its the same codec).

Best

Hi Chris,

on Windows, it looks at the Win registry to find all installed mocha versions. On Mac, it looks at all folders "/Applications/mocha*.app" i.e. won't find installations located anywhere else.

Quick fix: Choose in MochaImport+ the option "System Default Program" and make mocha Pro the system default program for .mocha files (i.e. configure your system such that mocha Pro is launched, when you double-click on a mocha project file on Win Explorer or Finder).

In case this does not work, please write me an email to

Best,

any chance to have the ability to track the proxy?
I have to work with mostly red R3D which mocha will not import....I create a proxy video, but mocha import does not see it and gives an error of mocha not able to open the file....
I just wonder if it is possible to make it proxy intelligent...so it can track the proxy file

Mike, have you tried exporting your video as a series of jpeg stills? That would probably be the easiest way for you. Mocha can use those to track then.

Mocha really should be updated to use newer file formats. It drives me a bit crazy that Mocha is shipped with AE but does not recognize the .mts format even though Adobe's own OnLocation saves in that format. I shoot with a DSLM (GH2) and it saves in that format so, like you, I have to go through extra steps simply to track.

remember mts is a container not a codec...the interior codec is likely mpg...(sometimes h264)
half the time all you have to do is rename .mts to .mpg and it will work...

Mike BTW MochaImport is just an AE script. As far as I understand it, it does not interact with Mocha at all so I do not think Mathias can change the way Mocha itself tracks. His script simply uses the data that Mocha produces.

Of course am not the expert here and I can not speak for him. Just trying to help. :)

i export as cineform right now and that works fine....

what i am asking for is not changing the way mocha tracks....
If you create a proxy(in my case a cineform AVI) using AE's create proxy feature...when you right click on the file and say reveal in browser...explorer shows you the proxy you created..

if you disable the proxy checkbox and right click....and say reveal in explorer...then you see the origional

what i am asking for is when we say track in mocha...and the proxy is enabled....the proxy file gets opened by mocha...not the origional

but this would be done all without replacing and finding footage

Hi Josh,

in particular if your clip is long, this function needs to write a lot of keyframes which might take some time. Don't be irritated if MochaImport+ processes for a few minutes on longer sequences and/or slower machines.

Hi:
First...sorry by my English.
I have some tools of mamoworld, very good place!!

I am trying to do the tutorial autolip-sync (the talking car) but when I work with mochaimports+ is not ok...

I have created the masks and export for layer 1...but in Mocha only I can see the masks on black background...not the video with the car and of course is not possible to track. (error message: One or more selections were not tracked properly. The images are too dark or not similar enough to track.)

Onother thing...Entering Mocha appear 'Open Proyect Wizard' window...in yours tutorial don't appear!!....¿¿¿is important??

Can I send you the screens??

Thanks and I am waiting for your answer!!

Hi Maite,

the download of the project conaints an MTS movie file, I think. Since mocha does not support this format natively, you need to convert it to another format that mocha supports. Good formats are an tif image seuqence or a quicktime mov file.

Best,

Got the full version a month or so ago, have not had a chance to really use it yet but two things.

First: Any problems using this with CS6?

Second just a request reminder to add a button to have it insert the tracking data right at the current time location without having to type in the frame info etc...

If this is already there sorry. As I said I have not really used the full version yet.

I may never use it but I am going to get/play with Orient World as well.

Hi Kegle,

there used to be MochaImport (without the +) which was on a "name your own price" basis. Its not available anymore, but all features of the old version are fully functional in the trial version of MochaImport+. Hence, you can use the trial (without time limitation) as long as you only want to use the features of the old version.

Best,
Mathias

Hello Mathias

Thank you for your fast reply, that's great to know.
I did purchase Auto Lip-Sync, and I am having trouble with keeping the mouths straight with moving characters, I was wondering if Mochaimport would help me in this regard ?

Hi ADR,

can you send me a screenshot showing the problem to ?

Also, have you tried to restart After Effects?
Does it make a difference whether you start it via the window menu or Scripts->run Scriptfile?

Cheers,
Mathias

Hello Mathias,

From the tutorials it looks like an awesome product. So I went and bought it ;)

But I have a small problem, when I click "track in Mocha" it opens Mocha but there is no clip shown, just a standard Mocha screen. My clip doesn't get imported into Mocha.

Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks a lot .

Hi Timo,
is the clip you've tried to send to mocha compatible with mocha? You can check this, if you try to create a project for the file in mocha manually.

If you still have problems, please open a support ticked at aescripts.com/contact with the account you used to purchase your license.

Cheers,
Mathias

Hi,
Thanks for the great plugin. I already have a shot tracked in Mocha Pro before. Is it possible to use this data with MochaImport Plus, or do I need to retrack it all again (send it from AE and track it again.) How can I import data from a previously done Mocha Pro track?
Thanks!

Hi Anthony,

MochaImport+ can import the tracking data no matter how you created the mocha project.

Cheers,
Mathias
