Start Tutorials Advanced Tutorials Tutorial: Monster Face

This is a really fun project where we turn a face into a monster face. You learn advanced tracking techniques to modify the mouth and other parts of the face. Due to Mocha, this is comparably easy although the face is heavily moving.

Contents

  1. tracking in Mocha (1:42-11:45)
  2. making the mouth larger (11:46-21:59)
  3. modifying the face (22:00-34:20)

I've given what I can afford right now, which is a pittance, I know... but I'll buy more when I can.

I'm curious about combining this tutorial with the original Demon Face warp tutorial from videocopilot.net. I'm assuming after I track the data in mocha, and get the tracking data into AE (MochaImport... woohoo...), am I correct in assuming I can pick that tutorial up at the point when Andrew starts applying the Liquify filter? From that point on, it should pretty much be the same steps and technique, right?

And there's no need for the reverse stabilization he goes through?

Hi Joe,

of course, you can combine the two tutorials. When you create a stabilized precomp with MochaImport, you can simply skip all the tracking, stabilization and reverse stabilization part :-)

Hi Mathias,
A great tutorial as always. Big fan. Are you using Mocha Pro or Mocha AE that comes bundled in AE CS5.5? Also, would appreciate if you tell me which version? I know Mocha v3 release is just round the corner (Apr 15th?), and am excited about the new features.

Thanks.

Hi gateleys,

I am not sure what version I used in this tutorial, but the corner pin tracking required here, you can use any version. The new mocha V3 is very exciting because of its 3D camera solver. Also, if you do a lot of rotoscoping, you will love the many little details that have been improved.
